A sweet, sweet summer
Published in Unknown Binding by Hodder & Stoughton ()
Average review score:

A mind-blowing post -apocalypse tale. There are alien spaceships in possession of our planet, but humanity has not improved in the face of a common enemy...
Gaskell has created a horrifying tale of the takeover of the planet, but in the microcosm, on the streets of London.
She puts the reader into the head of possibly the most repellent protagonist I have ever read. The world may be falling apart, but this London street rat will simply continue to feed on the bits and pieces of remaining humanity. Is there any hope that he will develop a human conscience? Become capable of love?
This is a fascinating, repellent work, unfortunately unforgettable.

The Taste of Summer: Inspired Recipes for Casual Entertaining With Wine Notes by Anthony Dias Blue
Published in Paperback by Bantam Doubleday Dell Pub (Trd Pap) (June, 1991)
Average review score:

inspired summer cooking with right amount of effortWorthington's book is superb, as are her independent titles (she also has published some titles for Williams-Sonoma but its editorial efforts takes away from the specialness of her own efforts). Her 3 cookbooks have become my standbys for entertaining of any kind -- and all year around. The Taste of Summer is a wonderful collection that I have been using year after year and never tire of it. And her recipes never fail to bring rave reviews from my guests. Worthington is an inspired writer and chef, and I look forward to her new release in the fall

tecHound.com's Summer ¿99 High Tech Career Almanac (Vol. Ed. 1)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by tecHound.com (June, 1999)

Best Resource for Job HuntingMy name is Nina and I was able to find a great job within a week using tecHound.com. I picked up the almanac at a DC Giant Food store and was immediately impressed with the information it provided on local high tech companies. The web site was easy to use and I appreciate the fact that my resume was not posted for all to see.
I have a friend that is moving here from CA and I was suprised when they told me they found this book on amazon.
This is a very good tool to use in job hunting. Thanks tecHound.com :)!

Test Your Logic: Fifty Puzzles in Deductive Reasoning

Average review score:

An excellent puzzle book for automated reasoningFor those of you who enjoy having computers solve puzzles, this book will provide many good problems to work with. The real puzzle is understanding how to phrase the clues in a language like prolog so that a machine can solve the problem. This book has many wonderful puzzles that can be done with the human mind in minutes, and will sometimes take hours to correctly phrase for solving by a computer.

That Summer
Published in Hardcover by Viking Press (March, 1989)
Average review score:

The Greatest Summer YetI was looking around in my high school's library, last year, when I first saw the novel "That Summer" standing on the shelf. Finding the cover, and the summary very interesting, I went, and borrowed it. After reading just a few paragraphs of the story, I was hooked. I finished the whole thing in one sitting. It was one of the best novels I've ever read. I enjoyed reading about the adventures of Annie Merrill in her first summer on her own. Little did she know that this particular summer would be the most important one in her life as she finds love, and friendship with two special people. Every single character she ran into, I found memorable; Georgia, Oscar, Ruth, etc. Especially Georgia, and Oscar. Those two cracked me up. What with Georgia's bouncy personality, and Oscar's questionable obcession with sex, how could they not fail in making you laugh? I recommend "That Summer" to anyone 15 or older. Prepare for a good read, folks. Even out of print, "That Summer" will always remain dear to me, and also for you after you have finished laughing and crying your head off over the darn thing.

Thirteenth Summer
Published in Paperback by Commonwealth Pubns Inc (October, 1996)
Average review score:

Tale of friends during depression rings trueThe worst of the depression was over thirty years before I was born, but I currently live in Oklahoma, so I do have some sense of identification with this book. Dust Bowl Oklahoma is the setting for Thirteenth Summer. And the trials and tribulations seem particularly true, since it is a time the author, Mary Virginia Brown, lived through.
It is her personal experiences that make this book about a preacher's daughter vivid and as real as the time we're living in now. The family in Thirteenth Summer is experiencing a financial hardship (believable for preachers even today!), and Mary Rachel Morrison feels powerless to help her parents out of the bind they're in. Add to that mixture a visiting missionary family who has a daughter the same age as Mary Rachel, and you've got a good read for your young teenager.
The writing flows gracefully through this book, and definitely does not seem "thrown together" like other recent books have been by bestselling authors. People of all ages can identify with Mary Rachel's dilemmas, and this book makes you root for her all the way through. You won't ever regret spending a summer with Mary Rachel and her family!

The Thousand Mile Summer
Published in Paperback by Vintage Books (May, 1989)

Another WorldColin Fletcher had a simple solution to the tedium of civilized live. He simply decided to walk the length of California from south to north. Including the Mojave Desert and Death Valley. He doesn't miss anything. He recorded the signts, sounds, people and his successes, failures and fears in wonderful detail. He found the purpose of the walk as he went along. The desert revealed its secrets to this man who took the time to experience the place on foot. Fishing in a creek, or climbing a mountain, or sleeping under the stars, Fletcher makes you feel as if you were there with him. A great writer and explorer, Fletcher is a joy to read. I have read most if not all of his books and this is perhaps the best. Whether you wander on foot or in you mind, you will, I think, love this book.
